Our favorite Virtual Classroom session is Wednesdays.  The children look forward to that day because they create an art project related to the topic of study.
The projects are simple because these children have a limited supply of materials. We ask parents to save toilet paper and paper towel rolls and empty boxes for the children to make sculptures. The children ask when could we paint and color like we we did at school. Unfortunately, our families cannot afford to buy paints, brushes ,paper, crayons, markers, colored pencils, pencils , and watercolors to create their amazing art world.  They miss drawing their family, pets, insects and dinosaurs.

    Hi Eugenia,

Thanks for sharing this work! What was the process in getting students to work on this collaborative piece?

    Best,
    James

Hi, there is a website called teacherpayteachers, it is a collaborative website where teacher share their materials. I got the project from there. But I did my own version since the project is for older kids, therefore, more complex. Basically I grid the painting into 9 pieces. The first lesson was about drawing using a grid, got some easy drawing of apples, houses, and such, a thing the kids can translate to the 'The starry night" painting. For the second lesson, the kids were already in groups of 3 and 4 and I give each group a  piece of the painting and I asked them to copies it as practice for the grid method. Them, we draw it again in the actual canvas, each group works together in making it a collaborative drawing. The next lesson was painting the canvas with solid colors, again each group is working together. The final part was to give the painting texture, we look at the original paint and to some of the versions of the paint I could find on the internet, and the kids started to make it. The original project was amazing and well explain, plus it comes with PowerPoint and printing material. Actually my teen did it back in elementary school, but he was in 5 grade so, each kid had a small canvas and in the end, they put it together.

    Hi there!

Just wanted to share in case anyone is interested. DonatePPE, a volunteer organization focused on getting PPE to the frontline healthcare workers recently partnered with the cartoonist of the Muppets / Looney Toons / TMNT / etc., Guy Gilchrist, to create free PDF coloring pages to help parents / teachers talk to their kids about Coronavirus, the pandemic, quarantine, & maskwear while doing something fun! If your kids submit their coloring pages to "doodles@donateppe.org", Donate PPE will print the submissions out in high resolution prints to pass out to frontline healthcare workers to post in the hospitals while distributing life-saving PPE. If you would like more info, go to www.donateppe.org/doodles to check out the artwork. Thanks!
