Launch into 2020 with a Splash…of Color!

The start of the new year (and a new decade!) brings fresh beginnings, new opportunity to reset your goals, brighten your surroundings and bring new color to your students’ environment. As we shake off the holiday hustle and focus on the next semester, we’ve found taking the time for a refresh benefits the whole room.

Here are a couple of tips that could bring some new life to your space:

    1. Simplify your décor: In a world of distractions, sometimes the best change is simply removing the excess and highlighting the value.

    2. Create a student gallery: Add some authentic color and recognition for your students with a rotating display of student success.

    3. Build a collaboration space: Creating a dedicated area to support collaboration encourages teamwork, respect and communication skills.

What plans do you have for your classroom space this year? Did you make any exciting changes that you’re particularly proud of?
Share some photos of your classroom décor so everyone can be inspired by your brilliance.

After addressing the immediate workspace, another common resolution we hear from educators is your focus on individual or school-wide professional development goals.

In support of your never-ending efforts to bring more value to your students, here are a few professional development tips from the team here at Crayola.

    1. Who Should Attend? When selecting the team to attend Crayola creatED Professional Development, consider educators who will challenge and support each other in student success.  The art teacher or the music teacher?  Sure!  Teachers in the arts are already part of the arts integration "choir." They know every student in the school and can share with other educators.  But don’t forget the math teacher who wants to integrate the arts or the ELA teacher who wants to use visual arts to support literacy?  Variety is the spice of life and the secret to a powerful creative leadership team.

    2. Use your ILT (Innovative Learning and Teaching Manager)! With the Vigorous and Vibrant level of creatED Professional Development, make sure to maximize your time with your ILT.  Consultations can cover a wide range of topics, questions, and idea-sharing.  They support a dive deeper into PD topics, specific activities, or to share student artifacts and anecdotes from arts-integrated lessons inspired by the courses.  Schedule them early and make them a priority.
    3. Consider the most popular creatED courses. In 2019, our STEAM I topped the list, while Multiliteracies I is leading the pack for 2020.  What are your school or district initiatives and how can creatED by Crayola support you?

The Crayola Professional Development team focuses on building creative capacity and embedding project- and inquiry-based learning in K–8 schools. We’re here to help your school learn new techniques of creative thinking and leadership to help boost achievement and accelerate transformation.

How are you intending to extend your professional development in 2020? Do you have any particular curriculum or skills you would like to implement this year?
