November, as blustery as it may be, delivers two heart-warming celebrations of literacy, providing educators and parents with “built-in” moments to help mold students into life-long learners.  National Family Literacy Month promotes reading together as a family, which studies show is the most important activity in cultivating a child’s love of reading. And started in 1989, National Young Readers Week kicks off today and challenges educators to lead by example and publicly make reading a personal priority.

Using creatED Writing Art-inspired Family Engagement Kits makes it easy to inspire family projects that support classroom lessons, both in-school and at-home. These integrated writing kits are an innovative teaching tool because they support single-classroom, whole-school, and district-wide initiatives and help fulfill Title I Family Engagement requirements.

Does your school have any literacy events planned for November? What is your most successful tool to encourage family involvement? You’re the experts - tell us about your successes closing the gap between the classroom and the kitchen table.
